01
OVERVIEW
RecordPlus is the streaming platform of Record TV, Brazil’s second largest TV network. It is available on desktop, mobile, and smart TVs, with over 13 million downloads.
The platform offers live broadcasts and on-demand content from Record TV, including news, reality shows, live sports, and exclusive productions. It also features religious soap operas, a format uniquely produced by Record TV, attracting a large and loyal audience.
Originally launched as PlayPlus and developed by third-party companies, the product was later reworked to introduce improvements and address existing limitations.

02
THE PROBLEM
When first working on the product, several issues became clear due to its size and complexity.
One key example was the free acccount registration flow. Users could create a free account to access limited content and live broadcasts before deciding to subscribe to a paid plan.
The flow required extensive information, including address and ID number, alongside standard account information. This was intended to make future plan subscriptions faster, since most user data would already be registered.
However, data showed that users were dropping off during this process due to its length and complexity. Many users only wanted quick access to live content and were discouraged by the amount of required information.
03
SOLUTION
To address this, the flow was simplified to require only essential information at first, allowing users to access content faster. Additional data would only be requested later, when subscribing to a paid plan.
This approach was based on two assumptions:
• Quick Access Priority: Free users want immediate access to content and may abandon long registration flows.
• High Intent Users: Users who choose to subscribe are more motivated and willing to provide additional information.
User-Flow before changes:

User-Flow after changes:

This introduced a trade-off. While it added friction to the upgrade process, it significantly reduced barriers to entry, allowing more users to experience the product before deciding to subscribe.
04
IMPACT
The updated flow led to a higher number of free account creations, with fewer users dropping off during the process.
With more users entering the platform, more conversions to paid plans were also observed over time, contributing to overall revenue growth.

SUBSCRIPTION JOURNEY

• Plan Details Modal: After selecting a plan, a modal presents more detailed information. Users can navigate plans to compare options and preview some of the content included in each tier.

• Onboarding & Payment Setup: Users proceed with account creation and payment setup in a single step, providing all required information for subscription.
The carousel also showcases validation states and error messages for incorrect or incomplete inputs:
• Account Verification: A verification code is sent to the user’s email to confirm their account. Users can alternatively choose to receive the code via their registered mobile number.

• Checkout Overview: Users can review accepted payment methods, including credit card (highlighted in this flow) and Pix. Pix is an instant payment method in Brazil where a QR code is generated for payment via a banking app.
The carousel includes a scenario where discount coupons are invalid or expired:
• Credit Card Input: Users enter their card details to complete the purchase.
Once again, the carousel highlights real-time validation and error states for incorrect input information:
• Success Screen: Upon successful payment, users receive confirmation of their subscription and can immediately access the full content available in their selected plan.

Special attention was given to payment inputs and failure scenarios, as these are critical moments for user trust and conversion.
The flow includes real-time validation, clear field-level error messages, and specific guidance for resolving issues such as invalid card details, expired cards, and declined payments. Instead of generic errors, messages were designed to be precise and actionable, allowing users to quickly understand the issue and recover without restarting the process.
To support this, input behaviors and validation states were standardized within the Design System, ensuring consistent and predictable feedback across all payment interactions. The variations shown reflect how different states guide users and reduce friction during completion.

LANDING PAGE
The landing page was redesigned as part of a broader overhaul of the streaming platform, including its visual identity and overall experience.
Built from scratch to replace the previous version, it serves as a key entry point for new users, presenting the platform’s value and guiding them into account creation or subscription, while highlighting live content, exclusive productions, and plan options.

08
CONCLUSION
Designing for a streaming platform required understanding how users consume content across different devices and contexts, while continuously improving an existing product and addressing its limitations.
User needs, benchmarks, and ongoing discovery guide both improvements and new features, helping the platform stay competitive in a fast-moving market. Frequent iteration is essential to adapt to new technologies, evolving consumption habits, and regulatory requirements.
