RecordPlus

About:

RecordPlus is the streaming platform of Record Group. It was launched in 2018 under the name PlayPlus, and the design system was originally developed by a third-party company due to its scale, complexity, and deadlines. Subsequently, the teams adapted it to meet development capabilities, user research insights, and technical limitations. I started working on it in 2021, developing new features and enhancing the experience for its broad audience. In mid-2025, I was responsible for creating the platform's landing page, which would accompany its redesign to RecordPlus and the entire new communication strategy with the public.

Like virtually all of the group's products, RecordPlus is also available for mobile and desktop devices, and on top of that, for TV. Because of this, an extra layer of challenge is added to the creation of each component, since they all need to work well in three different formats, in addition to the constant concern of catering to a broad audience.

Within the platform, in addition to Record TV's live programming, various on-demand categories can be accessed. These include documentaries, entertainment, films, children's content, news, soap operas, original productions, reality shows, and more. This is why the audience is so diverse, not only in terms of interest but also age ranges, attracting everyone from children looking for cartoons at lunchtime to elderly spectators, generally interested in religious soap operas.

The App

Working with RecordPlus gave me the opportunity to design an app interface for the first time. It was very interesting to learn how information and content are translated between a web browser and a dedicated app, even though both are accessed from the same type of device.

Understanding the habits of the audience that consumes streaming services through benchmarking studies and then designing to meet those needs was very enlightening: knowing how to guide actions through usability habits and seeing it work in a fluid and intuitive way reinforced the value of user-centered design decisions.

Understanding the habits of the audience that consumes streaming services through benchmarking studies and then designing to meet those needs was very enlightening: knowing how to guide actions through usability habits and seeing it work in a fluid and intuitive way is certainly one of the greatest satisfactions I have ever found in this profession.

Features and Improvements

To further enhance this experience, several features have been added to the product in recent years. Two of the most impactful were the favorites list and the "watch later" function, as they facilitated access to desired content and also encouraged users to return to the platform to watch saved content later, respectively.

The addition of parental controls was also another very important feature for the platform, given the large amount of children's content available. Through profile settings, it is possible to define for each profile which age range of content can be accessed, with the option to block this setting if the profile is intended for children.

Special attention was given to this small part of the project, not only because of the seriousness of its objective, but also because it had to comply with government regulations and laws regarding content classification and how this is made clear to the public's understanding.

The Landing Page

To support the redesign proposed by the Record group to transform PlayPlus into RecordPlus in mid-2025, a new landing page was needed to reflect the platform's new look and engage the audience for this new phase of the product. Due to bureaucratic procedures and the app's upcoming anniversary, the development of this design needed to be quick and precise to meet deadlines, adding further challenges to the responsibility of communicating about such an important and valuable project.

The biggest challenge behind this landing page was communicating not only the visual changes that this redesign brought to the product, but also the conceptual ones. With this, the app aimed to assume a more serious and competitive position, adopting the dark mode in its primary communication to better fit the market, in addition to introducing a huge range of new content and entertainment possibilities. The goal was not only to capture the attention of the audience that hadn't yet used the app, but also to show existing users that great new features and improvements were coming to the platform.

The Evolution of the Product

When RecordPlus was created in 2018, still under the name PlayPlus, I was working on the art direction team at the Record group and participated in the app’s initial marketing communications. Years later, already on the UI/UX team, I gained a deeper understanding of the platform’s operation and contributed to the design of new features and improvements.

Watching the platform’s evolution from different roles provided great insight into its growth and design maturity. The continuous expansion of content and the resulting increase in audience engagement reflect a process based on research, user understanding, and iterative improvement.

RecordPlus has evolved into a consolidated platform for entertainment, information, and leisure, supported by a consistent product vision and an engaged user base.
